Welcome to Coxsackie-Athens High School!
Our
school is comprised of more than 500 students in grades 9 – 12. We are
located in scenic Greene County, NY, approximately 120 miles north of New
York City and 19 miles south of Albany between the Catskill Mountains and
the Hudson River. Coxsackie-Athens High School maintains a long standing tradition
of excellence.
Our current staff strives to build upon that tradition by continuously
seeking ways to improve student achievement so that we “ . . . will be a
flagship school district that provides educational opportunities to
transform lives” (Strategic Plan, 2007-2012).
Coxsackie-Athens High School provides a wide array of course offerings.
Students can take Advanced Placement (AP) courses in American History, Art,
Biology, Calculus, English, European History, and Physics. Our students may
also take college credit courses through the New Visions Program and the
State University of New York at Albany, as well as a variety of other
colleges and universities throughout the region. In addition, we offer Honors courses in English, Math
and Science, as well
as accelerated courses in Foreign Language, Math and Science. Our Music
Department also is very active presenting four concerts each year, as well
as our spring musical, and the Fine Arts Department showcases student work
in a variety of venues.
Coxsackie-Athens High School offers many unique learning opportunities for
students. For example, students can register for electives such as Computer
Assisted Design (CAD), E-Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science,
German, and Sculpture. Some of our students also take advantage of classes
at Questar III’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Centers. These courses
offer our high school students the opportunity to learn career skills while
earning a Regents diploma. Questar III’s New Visions program, for example,
allows highly motivated students to pursue studies in Engineering,
Performing Arts, Science Research, and Health where they are able to work
with professionals in those fields to get true hands-on training. Coxsackie-Athens High School students
are attending the
highly acclaimed and competitive regional Tech Valley High School. For information on any of our course
offerings, contact our Counseling Office.
Technology plays an important role in the educational process at
Coxsackie-Athens High School. Our facilities include three computer labs, a
media center, and an Auto-CAD lab. All classrooms include one to four
computers for student and faculty use. In addition, this year there
are nine SMARTboards available in our classrooms. Computers are also used to maintain
student attendance and grades. Parents can track student progress via EdLine. Faculty members update grades each week. To learn more about how you can
access your child’s grades online, call the main office.
To complement our academic program, Coxsackie-Athens High School provides a
variety of extra curricular activities for its students. Some of our more
popular activities include Foreign Language Club, Interact, Mock Trial,
National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, SADD, Student Council, World of
Difference, and Yearbook.
Coxsackie-Athens students excel not only in the classroom, but also on the
playing fields. Our students participate in 17 varsity sports. Fall sports include field hockey, football, golf, boys soccer, girls soccer, girls
tennis, and girls volleyball. Winter sports include boys basketball, girls
basketball, boys volleyball, wrestling, bowling, and cheerleading. In the
spring, students participate in baseball, softball, boys tennis, and track
and field. Most sports also have Modified and Junior Varsity teams, so
students who are interested in athletics have wonderful opportunities to
participate. Schedules for all sporting events can be found as a link from
this website or at www.viewmyschedule.com.
Since July 1, I have served as the Coxsackie-Athens interim high school
principal, and each day I continue to find more things about which to be
excited. This is a community-centered school devoted to student
achievement in all its numerous arenas. It is a pleasure and privilege
to be with you until your new high school principal is selected and arrives
to take the position.
If we can be of assistance to you, please contact the high school at 518-731-1800.
Sincerely,
Linda Collett
