 **Schedule and Information for Parents and Students
       Regarding the January Regents & RCT Exams at C-A High School


 **This morning (Jan 18, 2012), an empty bullet shell was found by a student in a high school classroom who then notified the school office.  The school’s lockdown procedures were activated.  The school called the Coxsackie police.  The state police were also dispatched to the school.  The state police conducted a search of the building and authorized the school to resume to its regular schedule. 
The students and staff should be commended for their cooperation during this incident.  These precautionary steps were taken to ensure the safety of all students and staff.  The school reminds all students and parents that the possession of firearms, knives and ammunition is strictly prohibited on school grounds.  Any questions should be directed to the district office at 731-1710.

The art will be on exhibit through the month of January.  Congratulations!

 Update to EJ Arthur students collecting for "Coins for Our County" (at Halloween)
After the students had a chance to sort and roll the change, Community Action of Greene  County received a check for $661.86!!  We thank the generous residents for their support in showing the children they can make a difference!

 Coxsackie-Athens CSD is happy to announce the arrival of the new High School Principal, Heath Hanley.  Mr. Hanley will be starting on Monday, December 19th.

 C-A High School will be holding their Winter Concert on December 21st at 7:00 pm.  Snow date will be on December 22.

 C-A HS Student Council will kick off it's annual "Adopt An Angel Campaign" at Coxsackie's Christmas By The River on Sunday, December 4th as part of the "Make-A-Wish of Northeast New York".  Angels will be available to purchase in the High School Main Office through the month of December.

 Coxsackie Elementary PTO and EJ Arthur Elementary PTO will be having a "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday December 9th. The event at EJ Arthur Elementary on Third St. in Athens will run from 8:00am to 1:00 pm.  Coxsackie Elementary's on Sunset Blvd. in Coxsackie will be from 9:00 am to 12:00pm.

 C-A Middle School's Winter Concert for grades 7 & 8 is Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 pm.  Winter Concert for grades 5 & 6 will be Wednesday, December 14th at 7:00 pm.

 Please Note this change: C-A High School students will be dismissed on Tuesday,
December 6th at 10:30 am for parent conferences.

 C-A HS students who did not have their picture taken on October 17 may do so on Wednesday, November 30th in the morning.  For students who wish a re-take, you must bring the original pictures with you on the 30th.

 C-A will be honoring JV & Varsity athletic members at the Athletic Awards Ceremony to be held on Wednesday, November 9th at 6:30 pm in the High School auditorium.

 C-A Girls Cross Country Team placed 5th at sectionals on Friday, November 4th

 18 C-A music students are participating in the All County Music Festival to be held 7:30pm on November 4th at the Cairo-Durham HS. The following students are part of the 7-9 Band,
10-12 Chorus or Senior Jazz Ensemble: Bryanna Baldwin, Trever Baldwin, Aaron Chase, Andrew Cherry, Joshua Dayter, Josiah Ferenczy, Christina Hammerer, Katrina Josberger, Rachel Lindstrom, Maggie Matson, Michael Matson, Dominick Multari, Molly Oliveria, Rebecca Pacuk, Maggie Saez, Devin Wallace, Julia Wanek, Arielle Weinstein.

Three students were selected to be a part of the prestigious and competitive Area All-State festival being held at Suffern High School.  Senior Rebecca Pacuk and Junior Christina Hammerer are singing in the Women's choir and Senior Shannon Friel is playing harp in the Orchestra.  The festival will be held on November 18th & 19th.

 C-A Boys Varsity Soccer team will be playing Schalmont in a sectional game at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex located near the intersection of Rte 9W, 787 and the Thruway on Tuesday, November 1 at 7:30 pm.

 C-A Girls Cross Country Team won the Harvest Classic Invitational on Saturday, October 29th beating Maple Hill, Catskill, Lansingburgh, Hoosic Valley, Troy Catholic and Tamarac.  Their trophy will be displayed in the school.  Congratulations!

 C-A Boys Varsity Soccer team finished second in the Patroon Conference!  They will be playing at home on Thursday, October 27 at 3:00pm. If they win, a quarter final game will be played on Saturday at 3:00pm.

 Coxsackie-Athens HS Artists' Reception, October 25 from 2:00 to 3:20 pm (flyer)

 Members of the C-A Staff participated in the Making Strides to End Breast Cancer walk in Washington Park in Albany on Sunday, October 16th.  The team raised over $2,200!  The C-A Girls Soccer Teams helped by selling a variety of "pink items" along with "Refuse to Loose" t-shirts. The varsity soccer team started a trend of wearing pink shoelaces in their cleats two years ago to show support.  (picture)

 Coxsackie-Athens is registered to participate in the 2011 Speak Up National Technology Survey which runs from 10/10 to 12/23/11. We have participated in this survey since 2008.

 Students at EJ Arthur Elementary will be Trick-or-Treating this year collecting coins to help our neighbors in Greene County that have been affected by the flooding from storms Irene and Lee. Students will be given coffee cups with "Coins for our County" (see logo).
Students hope to surpass goals from previous years.  Anyone is welcome to contrubute to this cause; all monies should be turned in to EJ Arthur Elementary by Thursday, Nov. 3rd.

 Students at Coxsackie-Athens Middle School joined more than 2 million others across the country on October 18, 2011 for Mix It Up At Lunch Day, an event designed to foster respect and understanding in schools.  This event encourages students to sit with someone new in the cafeteria for one day.  The event fosters school spirit and unity and helps students meet  different classmates.  More than 5000 schools participated in the Mix It Up day which was created by the Southern Poverty Law Center's teaching Tolerance Project.

 Coxsackie-Athens HS Students Julia Wanek and Michael Matson were selected to be members of the Empire State Youth Chorale for "Melodies of Christmas".  With four sold-out performances held at Proctor's Theater in Schenectady, proceeds from the concerts benefit Albany Medial Center's Child Cancer Center.  The performances will be televised on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day on CBS Channel 6.

 Treats for Troops: Ms. Fahrenkopf and Mrs. Donlon's Coxsackie Elementary Kindergarten classes took time out of their busy learning schedules to put together Halloween goody-bags to send over to the soldiers in Iraq.  The children had a great experience learning the jobs of a soldier by reading books and having discussions.  the children appreciate all the hard work the soldiers do to keep us safe.  In return they sent two big boxes of goodies to a local friend from the 62nd Engineer company out of Fort Carson, Colorado to share with his platoon.

The cumulative efforts of the four buildings yielded over two truckloads full of supplies for kids and teachers at the Windham-Ashland-Jewett School district.  Thanks go out to Bryana Laveroni for transporting goods and to Michelle Whiting, Melissa Durant, Kirsten Fori, and Lori Grassi-Edwards for coordinating efforts in their buildings.  We appreciate the generosity of the C-A parents and students.  In addition, Coach Hudson and his football team passed along the $834 donation they received from Watervliet Schools to W-A-J!

 Two students at EJ Arthur Elementary were presented with an award for the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster Contest.  Sherry Mills and Francesco Agovino won the State contest and Francesco also won the Eastern Division.  Awards were presented on October 3rd.  Congratulations!

 A public forum regarding the potential installation of a biomass boiler unit at Edward J. Arthur Elementary School in the Village of Athens will be held from 6 p.m. till 7 pm on
Tuesday October 18th, 2011.  This will precede the regular meeting of the Coxsackie-Athens Board of Education.   Representatives from the district’s architect and engineering firm will be on hand to explain the project and answer any questions. 

 The Coxsackie-Athens Central District is proud to announce the 2011 Varsity Football Senior Game to take place this Saturday, 9/24 at 1:00pm.  Please come and join us to support the seniors in their final home game of the regular season.

 School Messenger Phone System Keeping Parents Informed
The Coxsackie-Athens School District is now using an automated phone system to help keep parents informed of their child's prepaid meal accounts.  This system will call your household once a week if your child has a negative balance on their  meal account.  This service is replacing the paper notices that were previously sent home.

 A message from Coxsackie Heermance Library:  Whether you attend elementary, middle or high school, feel free to come to the library to get Homework Help. There will be someone available to help from 3:30 – 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday.
